Angela was born to a single mother who moved to Cape Town with no family support. Life was not easy, but music and poetry gave her comfort. At eight, she joined the school choir and kept singing through her school years. When she won a poetry competition, she saw that people connected with her words. At nine, she got her first guitar and started writing songs.
Her mother didn’t believe music was a serious path and stopped her from taking it as a subject. Still, Angela followed her passion. She joined school plays, musicals, and drama classes. That’s where she learned how to sing properly, use a microphone, and perform on stage. In her final year, she won “Best Song” as the soloist for her school house competition.
After finishing school, Angela began performing at open mic events like Armchair Lounge, Alma Café, and Barleycorn. She played classic covers and her own songs. She also took guitar and singing lessons from teachers at top Cape Town music schools. Along the way, she met and worked with artists like Zane (Malawi) and Walter Spearheart (Nigeria). Their guidance pushed her to record her first album, Human, released in 2017.
Angela continued to grow by performing across Cape Town. She played at venues like Radisson Red Rooftop, Quay Four, Alexander Bar, Striped Horse (Muizenberg), Vic Bar, Nomad, Buskers Festival (Waterfront), Gugu’sthebe (Gugulethu), Col’cacchio, Beluga, Mojo Market (Sea Point), and Freedom Bakery (Diep River).
Some of her proud moments include reaching the live auditions of SA’s Got Talent and The Voice South Africa. She also performed at the International Miss Malawi Beauty Pageant 2018 and won Best Song Performance at Cape Town Exposed in the City Hall auditorium, where Mayor Dan Plato handed her the award in person.
Angela’s next milestones include performing at the STRAB Festival in Mozambique, playing a private show at De Hoop Reserve, and recording her next album.
She is now studying Entrepreneurship at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology while working as a restaurant hostess, waiter, and promo agent to support herself and her music. Her journey shows hard work, humility, and passion. For Angela, success means inspiring others to never give up and taking care of her family.
